Birth is quite a journey for everyone, even when it was easy, which isn't always the case, even when it went as planned - it's still a big event and a complete change for everyone involved, which may take getting used to. Gently getting in touch with the birth history can help all involved, starting with baby and mum, but also dad, siblings and grandparents. Craniosacral Therapy can offer this safe space for your baby and family. Find out more about sessions.
Babies cry to communicate. They cry when they're hungry, soiled and wet or tired. Mostly they can be calmed down by sorting out the practical things, or by being gently stroked and talked to in a soothing voice.
Sometimes nothing seems to calm them, which can become quite distressing for the baby and those caring for the baby. It may be that baby is frightened by his or her birth-journey (and mum and dad may be as well), or that there is some pain.
Gentle craniosacral treatment can support recovery and luckily babies usually react quickly to treatment.
A lot of babies have colic or reflux, which can be caused by the birth-journey, as can difficultues to breast-feed, sleeplessness and difficulties to fall asleep. The head-shape may be influenced by the way baby went through the birth-canal, or if a ventouse or forceps had to help with the delivery. There may be bruising to the little head and baby may feel very sore. Another issue can be torticollis, which may result from baby's shoulders having been stuck at a point in labour.

Mums have been through the birth process too! Hopefully everything went well and mum is fine!
Degrees of fine may be full of energy, a bit tired, quite tired, happy, content, a bit disappointed but ok, no pain, a little pain, bearable pain...
Then there may be degrees of not being fine, feeling very tired, very low, very disappointed or in a lot of pain, feeling very anxious about breastfeeding, etc.
The important thing is that mums usually want to be there and 100% to look after their babies. And mums need support. Craniosacral therapy can be one way of supporting new mums and, as mums and babies are still a unit and influence each other, both will profit from having a session together.
Dads, even though they haven't 'born' their babies, are also going through a big change. They may have been the birth partner and witnessed the birth, and thus physically experienced the birth. They may have seen their partner and baby in a difficult situation. Whether the experience was positiv or negativ, it has an impact, which can take a bit of working through. Craniosacral therapy can offer the space to integrate the experience and help dads to be present with their partners and babies.
