Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy in Central and North London - a gentle, yet profound approach to health

what is Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy?

  • holistic and rooted in anatomy/physiology
  • hands-on, yet non-manipulative
  • gentle, not invasive, yet deeply effective

Suitable and safe for all from babies to advanced ages, in fragile, acutely painful and chronic conditions, this gentle touch therapy can contact all of the structures and functions within the body-mind. It is an approach to healing, which assists your body’s own natural capacity and inclination toward a state of balance and well-being.

Life in our bodies is expressed in rhythmical motions in our fluids and tissues. Ideally, these motions work in perfect harmony with one another. Physical and emotional experiences such as stress, accidents, illness, trauma and others can however leave traces in our bodies, changing these rhythmical motions. This can give rise to many symptoms that cannot necessarily be explained as your body tries to balance out the disturbances using a lot of your life-force/energy, leaving you more vulnerable to illnesses.

what is it good for?

If there was only one answer it would be: To support your health!

As biodynamic craniosacral therapy works with your central nervous system and supports the underlying systems which regulate your health the below examples are just that: examples of conditions which can respond well to this form of treatment.

Allstress and stress related illnesses, depression and trauma recovery, sleeping disorders, chronic and recurring conditions, including arthritis, chronic fatigue, cerebral palsy, back ache, sciatica, migraines, recovery from falls, accidents, injuries, illnesses and surgery.

Mothers and babies: back-pain, anxiety during and after pregnancy, problems like birth trauma and colic. As there is no invasive manipulation involved this treatment is particularly suited to babies and pregnant women.

Children: dyslexia, lack of concentration, behavioural issues, recovery from illnesses and immune related problems.

Teenagers: the above issues and hormonal imbalances, which are causing mood swings, weight-gain or -loss and acne.

Women: menstrual pain and excessive bleeding.

When you start a course of treatments, you may notice that what you came for isn't the first thing to change - your system sets its own priorities.

Craniosacral therapy works very well alongside other therapies, as for instance homeopathy, as it supports the natural healing process.

what happens during a session?

  • you will usually lie (or sometimes sit) fully-clothed on a treatment table - children may sit on their parents' lap or play
  • the practitioner's light and spacious contact with your head or body can allow your body to tell its story
  • deep relaxation helps to release body-memory stored in the tissues
  • you may experience your body in a totally new way; you may experience tingling sensations, a deep meditative state or you may just feel relaxed...

Energy freed in your body can become available for further improving your condition.

how many sessions?

There isn't one answer to this question, as everyone reacts differently, reasons for coming vary greatly and one condition isn't the same in two people. I have seen marked differences within one to four sessions, other times it can take ten sessions or more. A craniosacral practitioner friend of mine has made the experience that the 'golden number' is around 8 sessions.

how much is a session?

  • 1 x 30 minutes £30 - recommended for babies and children
  • 1 x 45 minutes £45  (course of 5 x 45 minutes £205)
  • 1 x 50 minutes £50  (course of 5 x 50 minutes £225)
  • 1 x 60 minutes £60

First sessions usually lasts 60 minutes for adults, follow-up sessions are usually 45 or 50 minutes.

about me, Susanne Zahn-Willsdon, RCST, BCST:

Having been a contemporary dancer and dance teacher for over 20 years,    I have always been interested in the body and its expression.                After the birth of my daughter, which was induced and therefore long and quite complicated, I experienced  a lot of pain (in my knees, hips and back) and had very little energy. This changed when a friend, at that time in training as a craniosacral therapist with Franklyn Sills at Karuna, practiced on me. The experience was thrilling and life-changing – I was in a lot less pain and the levels of my energy improved dramatically after only two sessions with a then-student! Coming from a family of scientists, doctors and nurses I might never have tried out Craniosacral therapy, but having experienced it, I became deeply interested in this holistic approach and decided to train as a craniosacral therapist myself. Interestingly, during my training with Michael Kern and Ged Sumner at CTET (Craniosacral Therapy Educational Trust) I found out that our work is at the cutting edge of modern medical science. Working with this approach to healing is fascinating and deeply rewarding.

I am a registered and fully insured member of the Craniosacral Therapy Association.

what do others say about me?

'I was advised to try Craniosacral therapy by my yoga instructor. I had had an accident on my motorbike and a bang to the head has resulted in my balance being disturbed. I found Susanne on the internet- she was trained by one of the most famous researchers in Craniosacral therapy and therefore was pretty easy to find. After several sessions my balance was improved and I felt that the healing process was completed. Throughout, Susanne explained the process to me and was extremely flexible to fit treatment in around my schedule. I would highly recommend Susanne and if I ever need such a treatment again I will certainly go to her. I was a little sceptical about Craniosacral therapy before the treatment but it has certainly had a big affect on my balance. If sceptical you should just suspend disbelief and go for it! Craniosacral therapy is certainly an effective healing methodology…'                                                            Jonathan, 2008

'I have been to Susanne Zahn-Willsdon many times for over a year for problems probably rooted in childhood trauma which have manifested in anxiety attacks and severe depression.

Susanne is truly gifted. The sessions with her have brought me back from the edge many times and allowed me to feel at peace with myself and my surroundings for perhaps the first time ever in my life.

This type of therapy is so calming and peaceful and when you walk out of the therapy room you begin to realize how profound craniosacral therapy is. My entire world perspective changed from the inside out, allowing me a deep sense of peace.

You can surely imagine what this kind of radical change can do for someone. I left the job which was pretty much torturing me and am now doing pretty much what I have dreamed of doing and am a copy writer.

Other profound positive spiritual changes I find difficult to verbalize have resulted from the craniosacral therapy sessions with Susanne. I highly recommend going to her.'
